Description
This animation can be best described as eyecandy. Made for the Ceramics museum Keramiekmuseum Princessehof in Leeuwarden. We won a price with this animation at the commercial work conference 'Keying into the Brain' in 2009.

The Keramiekmuseum Princessehof (Ceramics museum) wants to show you that ceramics are not only cold and hard objects. That porcelain is not only a tool but art as well. From all ages, all cultures. The stilled decorations tell us about the history of mankind. So how can we bring the stilled decorations to life? To tell their story and to show their human side? That was our challenge.

We took the decorations and digitally 'pulled' them of the ceramics and into our computers. Once removed from their original form we brought them to life using pin tool animation. We placed them on a human landscape where they interacted with the landscape and each other. The human element made colder, harder and fragile to match the origins of the decorations. The decorative elements made warmer, softer and alive. In this new world we can witness the stories behind the ceramics and see their human side.

    Usage

The museum is based in an 18
th century city palace in the city centre of Leeuwarden. That once belonged to the Oranje Nassau's (Dutch royal family). In the entrance hall visitors will be welcomed with the animation on a large screen once the renovation of the hall is completed.

At the moment the film is showed to groups visiting the museum and during presentations. Everyone who has seen the film is very impressed by this world of living porcelain.

    Award

In 2009 'Living Porcelain' won an award for best animation during the 'Keying into the Brain' commercial work conference.
